Congratulations NaNoWriMo 2011!

At last, this crazy marathon writing experience has come to its final chapter. Was your mission accomplished? Did you scribble your 50,000th word at 11:59 p.m. last night?

Even if you didn't quite finish- be proud- you have exhibited a feat of willpower and creativity that few people will ever experience. (And don't forget, you'll always have another chance next year.)

As a big thank you to all our writers, we want to invite all our community members to participate in the epilogue to NaNoWriMo 2011: "A Novel Competition".

When: December 1st through December 8th.

Where: The comments section of this post

What to do: Submit a brief plot summary or “book jacket copy” about their novel, maximum 250 words, in this contest entry's comments.

Who wins: LJ Editors will select the top five finalists from the entries. Guest judge Mark Coker (you may remember Mark from his recent LJ interview) from Smashwords will choose one grand prize winner from the finalist pool.

Prizes:

1 Grand Prize winner
Amazon Kindle
Blurb.com $20 gift certificate

4 Finalists prizes
Blurb.com $20 gift certificate

(Blurb.com is a website where authors can publish hardcover or paper copies of their books.)

For some, the anticipation of this contest might feel like Waiting for Godot. For others, these words could be no more than "a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing" but a chance to win some prizes. Either way, we look forward to reading your submissions! Good luck, writers!

Wrong Kind of Different
Cassandra Lewis has always been different. Everyone is. But sometimes she wishes she was the right kind of different. It would be nice to have friends, to go to parties or the mall, to spend time with people who were alive. A new school gives her a new start in a place where nobody knows who she is, or saw her talking to herself when she was five. She finally makes friends who have no idea about her special ability.
Cassie's new friends invite her to a birthday party on a large yacht. The plan is that the yacht will leave the dock at 7pm, sail around the bay and return at 1am. However, something goes strangely wrong and the boat they all end up on is not as 'lively' as they had planned.
The boat they end up on is the Neutiquam Erro and it vanished one hundred years ago. Nobody on board was ever seen again and nobody knew what had happened or why. Until now.
Cassie is the only one on board that knows exactly what happened and what has to be done to break the curse. She has to convince the others that she isn't crazy, ghosts are real AND she has to get them to work together to break the one hundred year old curse and all before the night ends. And to think her teachers called her an underachiever! This just might be the hardest thing she has ever tried to do and the punishment for failure is forever.
